Stuff That Makes Things Go

The MIDI triggers screen is where you teach OnSong to listen to your fancy MIDI gear & do stuff. Basically, you're hooking up your MIDI device to OnSong & mapping commands to actions. Revolutionary, amirite.

Listenin' for Triggers

Open this screen & OnSong will start eavesdroppin' on every MIDI command like a nosy neighbor. Send the same command again & it'll highlight the item (congrats, you found it). Send it a third time & boom—you get to pick an action. The action shows up next to your MIDI command like a little tag.

Wanna change which channels OnSong is spyin' on? Tap the "Listenin' for MIDI input..." text at the bottom & open the Listenin' Channel Picker. Or just turn off MIDI listening altogether. We won't judge. Much.

Settin' Actions

Tap a row & you can choose an action to stick with that MIDI command. Riveting stuff.

Addin' Triggers

Feelin' spicy? Tap the + button in the lower right & the MIDI Editor opens up so you can manually tell OnSong what MIDI command to watch for.

Editin' Triggers

Hit the Edit button in the upper right & the triggers list goes into edit mode. Now you can tap rows & use the MIDI Editor to change what MIDI command gets observed. Wild times.

Reorderin' Triggers

Wanna shuffle your triggers around? Hit Edit in the upper right or drag & drop 'em. Doesn't matter what order they're in—they'll work the same either way. Plot twist!

Deletin' Triggers

Oops, you caught a MIDI command you didn't mean to? Swipe right to left & tap Delete. Or use edit mode. Your funeral.

Context Menu

Tap & hold on MIDI triggers (iOS/iPadOS) or right-click (macOS) & a context menu appears with bonus features.

  • Choose Action — Pick a new action for when that MIDI shows up.
  • Edit — Change what MIDI command you're listenin' for.
  • Disable — Turn off the trigger without deletin' it. It'll look sad & faded.
  • Reenable — Wake up a disabled trigger. It's alive again!
  • Remove — Yeet it outta the list.

Changin' Settings

Head to the MIDI Settings Menu to tweak how OnSong handles MIDI. You can do extra stuff like listen for chords or send chords back through your MIDI instrument. Fancy.

Real talk: If you add MIDI to the list but don't assign it an action, it disappears when you close the screen. Poof. Gone. Like it never happened.
